Playwriting Circle Facilitator
Realwheels Theatre is seeking an online facilitator for their next Playwriting Circle; a program for beginning and emerging playwrights who identify with disability.
Starting in mid to late September 2021, the program will be offered online over ten 2.25-hour Saturday sessions, followed by a public (online) reading of works-in-progress in early December.
You will be required to develop and lead a 10-week workshop that allows for the development of the participants in their skills, and prepares them for a brief presentation of what they have been working on. Besides educating these emerging writers on basic items such as dramatic action, formatting, narrative structures, character development, subtext, story spine and other theatrical storytelling fundamentals, it would also be expected that there would be time for regular sharing of work-in-progress between the participants and cultivation of a safe space for feedback on the work.
Realwheels strongly values diversity and fosters an equitable and inclusive work environment. We welcome and encourage applications from members of marginalized or under-represented groups.
As an integrated disability company, we strongly encourage those who live with disability to self-identify as well as let us know of your access needs.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience facilitating a playwriting workshop
- A personal artistic practice that includes playwriting
- Understanding of the disability experience
- Basic understanding of Zoom
- As the workshop will be happening online, we are open to applications from anywhere in Canada
Compensation:
Contract fee of $2000 (plus GST as applicable)
How to apply:
Please send a cover letter and CV to info@realwheels.ca with the subject line: “Application: Playwriting Circle Facilitator” by end of day July 11th. Please include in your cover letter your initial thoughts on content/structure of the workshop.
